The Two Reasons I Voted at the Crack of Dawn

I woke up at 5:30 this morning, alert and ready to go. I am not a morning person but I figured I should make the most of it. I am going to vote and not have to worry about it for the rest of the day.

As I was walking to the voting site in my district, I asked myself, “Why do I vote?”

Because I am a woman of color.

The 15th Amendment gives me the right to vote. I cannot be denied my right due to “racecolor, or previous condition of servitude”.

The 19th Amendment also gives me the right to vote. I cannot be denied my right based on my sex.

It’s that simple.  So go vote! If you are in NYC, you should be able to vote at any of the poll sites due to Hurricane Sandy. All you have to do is sign an affidavit. Click here for more info.
