What is your current project?

It’s My Divorce – Y’all Come!

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

NY New Works Theatre Festival – This is a total reboot of a solo piece I wrote immediately following my divorce. Now, 8 years later, I finally have enough distance to say something truthful and meaningful – something that speaks to anyone who has every been in a relationship. And I’m writing my own songs!

What’s next for you?

Writing my first musical.

Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

Christopher Murray – He seeks clarity in a world full of chaos, uncertainty and spin in order to make the world a measurably better place.

Keith Herron grew up following his parents all around the world. He is an actor, singer, dancer most recently seen on screen in Boardwalk Empire and Mr. Robot. On film, Keith has hunted supernatural evil beings with Corbin Bernsen, lured husbands and fathers away from Jane Adams and Dreama Walker (respectively), and shot a Frenchman at the direction of Jonathan Frakes. On stage, he has embodied Werner Heisenberg in two very different plays: “Copenhagen” and “Farm Hall”; he has danced the dances of Jerry Mitchell and spoken the words of Peter Tolan; and he has performed at St. Clements, Workshop Theater, NY Fringe, Minnesota Opera, Dudley Riggs, Children’s Theatre Company, Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, and the Minnesota Shakespeare Company.

It’s My Divorce – Y’all Come! show was first written as Keith went through his divorce. The show is being directed Anne Pasquale, his wife of 5 years. They have worked on numerous shows in many capacities (acting, writing, directing, producing).  Favorite credits include A Doll’s House; Almost, Maine; 12th NIGHTed, Copenhagen,  Bob, through our production company, Kandu Productions.

NY New Works Theatre Festival: Meet Mary-Frances Doherty & Home Sweet Home

 

Name: Mary-Frances Doherty

What is your current project?

Home Sweet Home – A hilarious and heartbreaking tale of a young girls journey and desperate quest to entertain. With cakes at the ready, Mary-Frances Doherty dazzles in this compelling, and at times extremely painful, exploration of the idea of home. There are three sections to the play: The first looks at Mary-Frances’ childhood, growing up in a traditional country Irish home as the youngest of 12, and what her and her 8 sisters and 3 brothers used to do to entertain their guests. The second is about her Dad, the memories she has of him, and her struggle with his illness and eventual death. And the third is about her being a young woman and wanting to have a Home Sweet Home of her own.

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

I’ll be performing it as part of the New York New Works Theatre Festival! I’m really excited to be working with this brilliant festival and to have the opportunity to showcase my work in an Off-Broadway theatre in the heart of New York’s Theatre District, and in front of a panel of Broadway Producers, Emmy and Tony Award Winners!

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working with Curious Doings Theatre Company and will be performing their new show, The Things People Say, in the Lyric Theatre, Belfast in September before performing my show for young audiences, Katie’s Birthday Party, in The Ark as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival in October.

Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

My mum, she is such an incredibly strong person, who has been through so much but still has a real fun spirit. She is always there for me and always knows how to make me smile. She is a big Nathan Carter fan, a County Irish music star, and goes to all his concerts. I hope one day I can be as generous, loving and positive as she is.

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

My team is traveling all the way from Boise, Idaho to compete in the New York New Works festival at the Elektra Theater in the Times Square Art Center on September 12th. I submitted to this festival because of their enthusiasm for new work and their commitment to helping new writers make it to the next level!

What’s next for you?

Assistant Directing Dracula at our local theater in Boise, Idaho.

Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

Emma Thompson. She’s an exceptionally strong performer as well as a tremendously talented screenwriter.

Listed below are the plays that she has written but are currently unpublished. The 2 plays that she is currently working on are unlisted. The Stage Door A Thriller in Two Acts (Cast: 7 Female, 5 Male) Legend has it that one of the doors that lay stacked in the Tower Street Theatre set-builders room is not to be used. Ever. For when actors cross through its unassuming threshold onto a stage, they become the character that they are playing… indefinitely; even after they step off the stage. Now, this may seem all well and good for an actor portraying a person similar to his or her own self, but if they happen to be playing something darker, it can cause sinister complications. No one knows how to reverse it, no one knows how to destroy it and no one knows how this legend came about. But the most frightening fact remains; that over the theater’s 55 year history… no one remembers which door it is.

Gladys Nights A Killer Comedy in Two Acts (Cast: 4 Female, 4 Male) Gladys is having a mid-life crisis. Stuck in the daily grind, working at her office day job with an irritating narcissist boss, she is suddenly visited by her old imaginary friend Pepper; a sleek, sexy bad-ass super assassin who talks Gladys into posting an ad on Craigslist: Assassin for Hire. She gets a few hits (see what I did there?) and goes through a number of “clients” who want to hire her to kill someone. Much to Pepper’s dismay, during the negotiation process, Gladys inadvertently talks the clients out of it. When a Detective tries to catch her in the act, he somehow falls for her instead, causing a series of unfortunate misunderstandings. In the end, Gladys must choose between Pepper (and a potentially exciting life as an Assassin) and her newly found romance.

THEY A Thriller in One Act (Cast: 1 Female, 2 Male) SHE and HE have been anonymously asked to participate in an original script reading at their local community theater. When the mysterious author arrives and the reading begins, SHE and HE find themselves literally trapped in a sinister plot with a chilling agenda and a lethal conclusion. The Other Shoe A Quirky Comedy in One Act (Cast: 1 Female, 2 Male) In an alternative universe where gender roles have been reversed, Mike is exploring the boundaries of society. Tom is desperately trying to convince Mike to give up the crazy notion that females can be gentle. When Betty arrives, things take a surprising turn.

My mother passed away recently and this show is a based on my personal journey and the discoveries I made afterward. I feel that these are important and positive lessons to pass on to children.

NY New Works Theatre Festival: Meet Lance Ringel & In Love with the Arrow Collar Man

What is your current project?

In Love with the Arrow Collar Man

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

My play will have its world premiere when an excerpt from it is presented in the New York New Works Theatre Festival in September.

What’s next for you?

Deep in rehearsals right now for the premiere in September. But in between, I am off to Uganda for a performance of a concert piece for which I wrote the original narration, directed by John Caird. It features the talents of orphaned children from Uganda and Japan, as well as American college students.

Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

Probably my spouse, Chuck Muckle. He not only is directing Arrow Collar Man in the festival but also is directing a musical that he composed which is also included in the festival, called Mourning Becomes Ridiculous. Plus September marks our 40th anniversary(!).

Lance Ringel’s play In Love with the Arrow Collar Man will receive its world premiere on September 7 at the New York New Works Theatre Festival. Ringel was principal writer of two theater pieces created for Vassar College. Vassar Voices, a staged reading highlighting 150 years of the college’s history, premiered at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The cast featured Meryl Streep, Lisa Kudrow and Frances Sternhagen. It toured across America and to London. At Home in the World, directed by John Caird, spotlights talented young performers. It has been staged in Japan, Uganda and America to sold-out houses. Collaborating with director-actor-composer Chuck Muckle (his spouse of 40 years), Ringel wrote Animal Story, a short musical for young audiences that received its New York premiere earlier this year. Ringel’s reputation as a writer of gay historical fiction was established with the critical acclaim accorded his 2014 novel Flower of Iowa (Smashwords), about an American and British soldier in World War I who fall in love. Kirkus Reviews called it “accomplished, touching historical fiction,” adding, “Ringel packs a remarkable amount of flavor and detail into this debut work.” Actor, author and director Stephen Fry tweeted, “Reading a truly wonderful WW1 novel. … So truthful and touching.” Ringel and Muckle divide their time between New York City and Poughkeepsie.

What is your current project?

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

The Elektra Theatre as part of the New York New Works Theatre Festival. It’s a beautiful space in a vivacious Midtown location.

What’s next for you?

I’ve finished writing a series of limerick fables for my Nephew, which I am hoping to have illustrated and published before the year’s end. My second full-length stage play “Moulten Isle” is currently being reviewed by my mentors for potential production. I’ll also be acting in a tribute film directed by my friend Rachael Silberman in North Carolina later this summer.

Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

My Gran, Gloria. She’s a legend and always puts things into the most brilliant perspective for me. I feel peaceful and motivated by her whenever I see her or hear her speak.

Mark Adrian Ford was born in southern Alberta and has been involved in theatre since the age of 8. He graduated with Honours from the Hartt School Actor Training program in 2012. From his hometown Okotoks to Calgary, Stratford, Hartford, New York, Los Angeles, Shizuoka, Toronto and Birmingham, Mark has been keenly studying his surroundings, collaborating with inspirationally creative people in a variety of disciplines and styles. Adrian Miranda graduated Ithaca College in 2006 with a degree in physical therapy. Adrian grew up in Washington Heights playing and loving sports but fell into the arts accidentally in college where he started dancing. Then in 2012 he found theater. He performs with a group called the Heights Players in Brooklyn, NY. After learning a lot on stage and learning more about voice he realized he had so many stories to share from his patients in the clinic that he could share with the rest of the world in order to help people improve their physical health.

NY New Works Theatre Festival: Meet Marissa Kohn & Blindsided Date

What is your current project? Blindsided Date

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

The NYNW Theater Festival. It’s a topical piece about gun control and Tinder dating that this audience will appreciate.

What’s next for you? 

I have a few projects in the works. One is an expansion of this play as a musical with Zack Redler (Memory Play). Another is an animated “text” book titled, Sex Cults of the 1800’s.

Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

My year old son. I feel like I’m a more confident well rounded artist since surviving the first year of his life. He’s taught me how to be present and enjoy the moments I’m in.

Marissa Kohn is Utah native now living in New York City. She’s married and has an adorable, hilarious, one year old boy who gives her endless material as a standup comedian and playwright here in the city. Most recently her play Do Me A Little, which she also starred in, was performed at the 16th annual New York International Fringe Festival. Do Me A Little is a will-they-won’t-they marriage-consummation-comedy-tragedy about two wide-eyed virgin Mormons on their wedding night. She is currently working on a musical about an elementary school teacher and mass shooting survivor who, while running a marathon, lets her mind entertain itself and examines why she’s always running.

NY New Works Theatre Festival: Meet Tasha Nicole Partee & In a Vision, or in None

Name: Tasha Nicole Partee

What is your current project?

A new drama with comedy called In a Vision, or in None

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

The play is making its world premiere at the New York New Works Theatre Festival on August 31st! I am really excited for the piece to take its first steps with the amazingly supportive and talented artists involved in this festival. In fact, it was the positive experiences of past participants that initially inspired me to submit to NYNWTF. Ultimately, I’d like to expand this short play into a full-length piece, but my hope is that it will provide a thought-provoking, meaningful experience to NYNW Theatre Festival audiences in its current form.

What’s next for you?
 
It has been an exciting and busy summer. I am about to wrap up a run of my first full-length play, Mrs. Schrodinger’s Cat, in the New York International Fringe Festival, while at the same time preparing In a Vision, or in None for its debut with NYNWTF. I am really looking forward to setting some time aside for processing the tremendous learning that has taken place through these experiences. I would like to think the end of the festivals does not mean the end of the road for the work. I plan to seek a mentor in playwriting and continue developing them!
Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

My husband Peter is my biggest inspiration. He has been the greatest supporter of my work and dreams and encourages me every day. He is always the first person with whom I share an idea or draft, and he even reads them aloud with me, taking on every role from a valley girl to a grandmother. He is a trooper! I am also greatly inspired by all the people who have joined me on my journey as a writer: the actors who have given of themselves so completely in lifting my characters from the page, the friends and family who have lent their hearts and wisdom to the development of my plays, and the many, many people who have taught me throughout my life.

Tasha Nicole Partee’s writing has been featured by the Hudson Guild Theatre Company and Manhattan Repertory Theatre, and her first full-length play, Mrs. Schrodinger’s Cat, is currently running in the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival. A native of Richmond, Virginia, she was a founding member of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Women’s Project, providing opportunities for women in theater since 1997. A former NFL cheerleader for the Baltimore Ravens, she has danced in New York productions of Romeo and Juliet and The Sleeping Beauty and choreographed productions of Midsummer Night’s Dream with Onomatopoeia Theatre Company and Frankenstein with Hudson Guild Company, where she also recently played the role of Cora in The Iceman Cometh. She has directed over thirty plays and musicals and currently serves as Director of Upper School Theatre at Lawrence Woodmere Academy. She holds an MA in Educational Theater from NYU and a BFA in Theatre Education (VCU). Tasha is thrilled for it to be part of the 2016 New York New Works Theatre Festival!

NY New Works Theatre Festival: Meet Natalie Lovejoy & Deployed

What is your current project? Deployed

Where are you performing it and why is it the right fit for your piece?

New York New Works Festival. It is the right fit because the festival allows us to showcase an excerpt from the show to producers and investors who will be able to take it forward for a full production. Deployed is an important piece about the effect the non-stop wars of the 21st Century has had on our troops and their families that needs to be seen by more people, and the producers on the NYNW panel have the ability to make that happen.

What’s next for you?

Hopefully Deployed getting a full production regionally or Off Broadway. I’m also currently writing three other musicals, one of which – about women in Afghanistan who dress as men – will have its first reading in the fall.

Who is your biggest inspiration right at this moment and why?

No one person in particular, but I’ve been spending some time in Nashville lately and I’m totally inspired by the caliber of musicians and songwriters there. Their talent is pushing me to step it up and inspiring me to incorporate new styles into my musical theater sound.

Natalie Lovejoy is a Texas-born, Maryland-raised composer, lyricist, and bookwriter whose work has been heard in New York at Lincoln Center, 54 Below, The Duplex, Laurie Beechman Theatre, The Flea Theatre, and Greenwhich Music House, as well as in San Diego, LA, and Nashville. She wrote the music, book and lyrics to Deployed, which she began writing when she was married to a soldier who deployed to Iraq in 2008. A workshop of Deployed premiered off-off Broadway at the Abingdon Theatre Company in November 2013 and played again at the Gene Frankel Theatre in January 2014 to sold-out audiences. It was featured in the Musical Theater Factory’s 4×15 and at the Gallery Player’s Overtures New Work Series in 2015 and continues to be developed. Other work includes: Hall Pass (“Flyers and Fryers,” Rancho Bueno Visto High, produced by Blake McCarthy), The Big C (songs, Dramatists Guild), “Performance Anxiety” (music/lyrics, The Flea Theatre, Raw Impressions Musical Theatre Marathon), The Music of Natalie Lovejoy (The Duplex), and “Movement to Contact” (score, Veteran Artist Program PSA). Natalie is also an author, and her short-story “Two Roads” was published in the anthology Incoming (So Say We All Press) which examines the transition from military to civilian life. She is listed in The Directory of Contemporary Musical Theatres Writers at Contemporary Musical Theater.com. Education: NYU Steinhardt (MM in Music Composition), Catholic University (BM in Musical Theater), the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, and the Johnny Mercer Musical Theatre Project at Northwestern University. Professional Member: ASCAP, the Dramatist Guild.
